How to Password Protect a Folder in Windows 10

There are some personal folders you won’t like to share with other people specifically when you are using a shared computer. You would be looking for the answer of how to password protect a folder. Fortunately, it is not a mystery and Windows 10 offers a way to its users to create a password protected folder so that other people could not see it. Although you can do so by using a third-party software, but why to use a third-party folder lock app if Windows 10 offers this function to you? So, let’s start the guide without much delay so that you may tuck your important and private documents in that folder.

  1. To begin, put all your important files in a folder and then right-click in that folder anywhere. It will show a few options in drop-down menu where you should select “New.”
  2. As you select “New”, it will show you some other options. Select here “Text Document.”
  3. Now open this text file. Bear in your mind that you have created this text file temporarily and it will be removed as soon as you create a folder locker.
  4. Now in that file you have to paste the text given below.

title Folder Locker
if EXIST “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}” goto UNLOCK
echo Are you sure u want to Lock the folder(Y/N)
set/p “cho=>”
if %cho%==Y goto LOCK
if %cho%==y goto LOCK
if %cho%==n goto END
if %cho%==N goto END
echo Invalid choice.
ren Locker “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}”
attrib +h +s “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}”
echo Folder locked
goto End
echo Enter password to Unlock folder
set/p “pass=>”
if NOT %pass%==Enter-Password-Here goto FAIL
attrib -h -s “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}”
ren “Control Panel.{21EC2020-3AEA-1069-A2DD-08002B30309D}” Locker
echo Folder Unlocked successfully
goto End
echo Invalid password
goto end
md Locker
echo Locker created successfully
goto End
5. Find the phrase “Your-Password-Here” in the above codes and replace it with the password you want to set. Make sure your password contains a few capital and small letters with some numbers.
6. Now select “File” tab in the Text Document and click on “Save As” to save it as a “New Text Document” and the Save as type should be “All Files” instead of “*.txt.”
7. Now you need to change the file name. It should be “FolderLocker.bat.” and hit “Save option below.
8. Once you have saved your FolderLocker.bat, it will show you in the list of the files. It will also show you a “Locker” folder on the top of the list of the files that means your Locker has been generated successfully.
9. Now move all of your important files and documents into the newly-generated Locker folder to make them private and hidden.
10. Now click the “Folder Locker” bat file. It will ask you whether you want to lock this folder (Y/N). You should type “Y” to lock it and press Enter. Now the window will shut and the locker folder will also disappear.
11. If you want to access the Locker Folder, you need to double click the Folder Locker bat file. Its window will appear to confirm the password that should be entered to access the folder.
12. Lock the folder once you have used the files from Hidden folder Locker.
